FIFA World Cup Bids

Spain in 2010, Italy in 2006, Brazil in 2002, France in 1998 and finally 1994 where the US was the host and Brazil emerged champions. The world cup is every 4 years and to see one on our own turf would be a dream come true to many young American soccer fans.

There are rules for a country to qualify for a chance to host a world cup. One rule is that the country needs to meet the conditions and regulations of FIFA. (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Luckily the US does meet the conditions. Some fun facts about the US are that they finished third in the world cup of 1930. This year they were eliminated by Ghana during the 16^th round in South Africa.

The US has active bids for the World Cup 2018, and 2022 and they will be competing against different countries such as England, Russia, Belgium and the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. These last 4 are bids for only 2022: Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea. One major advantage we might have is that President Obama wrote a letter to the President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, in support of the US bid, and later they met up on July of 2009.

All we could do now is hope that a World Cup is held either on 2018 or 2022 on our turf. May our dream come true.

Mayo Cross Country Invite 2010

A distant roar was heard from the clubhouse of Eastwood golf course last night, September 16, 2010. The roar was not bulldozers or cars but hundreds of fans cheering for participants of the annual 2010 Mayo Cross-country Invitational. The Mayo invitational has grown into being one of the biggest races in Minnesota with a total of 22 teams competing in the boy’s varsity race. The Mayo Spartans head coach, Brett Carroll, is very happy with how the Invitational has evolved from a small meet to a major event that is well known and allows younger runners to shine.

This year the star boys varsity runner, Riley Macon, was not able to run because of a hip injury. However this injury forced younger runners on the team to push themselves to run faster than they ever have before. Steven Schimmel is a prime example of this. Schimmel finished 14th overall in the 5k varsity race and finished 1st for Mayo in a time of 17:00 minutes. Although this is not his fastest 5k time ever, he is extremely proud of his performance and hopes to improve in the near future.

The Mayo boys’ Cross-Country team is now training for an upcoming invitational at Burnsville on September 30th.

Kanye West 2010 album release

Kanye West’s success in albums so far has been like a never ending plague. He comes at us with his music strong and always leaves people talking about it. Kanye West’s new album, “Good A** Job” is set to be an upcoming hit. Kanye once again returns to the music scene causing news to surface because of the success of his last two albums.

Kanye West who recently performed in the 2010 VMA’s in a bright red suit, Singing “Runaway “a song off his new album. He is planning on making a big comeback. After the 2009 VMA’s when Kanye interrupted Taylor swifts won and said Beyonce should have won. West seemed to have lost some fans, because of his words said at Taylor at last year’s VMA’s, however I don’t think this incident will affect Kanye’s success as an artist

So far there is no talk about what the complete sound of the album is, but Kanye has abandoned the auto tune sound in his past albums. In this album it’s more of a hip hop sound. Kanye has the straight forward attitude and lyrics that hit the ears of fans. Newcomer artists like Kid Culi and Drake are heard to be featured on the album. Looks like another successful album for Kanye!

What a Way to Lose a Winner

Watching Alex Barron’s holding foul at the end of the game against the Washington Redskins, which cost the Dallas Cowboys their final touchdown and the game, made me and many other fans irritated out of our minds. I, for one, wished I had missed the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys versus Washington Redskins on Sunday, September 12, 2010, since what I saw was one sorry performance from the Cowboys.

The end result of the game was a victory for the Redskins. The first quarter ended with the Redskins leading with 3 points off a field goal. The second quarter ended with a fumble with the Redskins took in for touchdown, ending the half, 10-0. The third quarter, Dallas pulled through for a touchdown ending the third quarter 10-7. Fourth quarter ended with the Redskins defeating the Cowboys 13-7..

The Cowboys had two major plays that decided their fates. The first play was when they went for a play with four seconds left on the clock, which ended with a fumble and gave the Redskins their only touchdown of the game. Their second mistake was when Barron made his third holding foul of the day during the last play, which made the Cowboys final touchdown invalid.

Last Sunday’s game was one of the sorriest performances I have seen. Call after call, bad decisions were made and the Cowboys’ performance was a mess. Hopefully the Cowboys will make up for it this football season and redeem a winner from a loser.
